A summer sunrise at Coalcliff
Arriving at Coalcliff later than I hoped, the sun just started peering over the horizon as I walked the path towards the pool. About half way down with my focus squarely on the rising sun, a water dragon scared the absolute out of me as it scrambled from the edge of the path into the hillside scrub to avoid me.
Upon arriving at the pool there were only a couple of people enjoying an early morning swim but I decided to go wandering off to the rockshelf, which is huge, if you haven’t been it’s worth the look around. I particularly like the view of the northern end of the Seacliff Bridge at it rounds the final part of the cliffside.
Today, I discovered a fisherman laying out pots from his tinny and was able to use some of the rocks to guide the eye to him sitting under the iconic bridge.
After taking in the rockshelf and watching a couple of fishermen for a bit I made my way back towards the pool. As I got about 40 metres from the pool and walkway back up to the car I noticed some splashing in the water and realised their was a pod of dolphins lazily making their way along the coast, I swear they have a sense of when I’m around and don’t have my long lens. Managed to get a few shot of them as they cruised around and threw around a few tail slaps. Eventually, after about 10 minutes of watching, I caught one leaping out of the water.
After leaving I figured while I’m in the area I may as well go for a walk along the bridge, I have only done that maybe once or twice. My camera battery was running out so I left it turned off until I noticed something I thought was worth a photo
Heading back to the car I was struck by how cool the shadows of the railing looked stretching across the path. The timing was perfect for the shadows to reach the whole way across without encroaching on the white barrier separating the roadway from the walkway. It’s always fun to play with the light and shade and I feel like processing it as a black and white image accentuates the textures and tones.
A little spot of colour caught my eye on one of the railing uprights and as I got closer I realised it was a lady bug. When I find things like this I often wonder how many people have already walked past and not paid it any attention too caught up in their phone or just the general worries of everyday life
