North Beach Day Off
Worked four days this week so wasn’t able to get out for a shoot until Friday morning. I thought about going down the coast to Kiama/Gerringong area but in the end stayed close to home as I had a Drs appointment to be home for mid morning. This was the first shot I took when I got out of the car. My usual routine with these walks is park near the Lagoon and wander along the beach or bike track as far as I feel for the morning. This morning I went all the way around both lighthouses and back, a nice two hour stroll to start my day.
The lagoon left this cool little s bend as it flowed out across the sand into the ocean, luckily for me a person just happened to be walking past at the time. After this I did some ICM trying to get the s bend in the shot, with limited success. I’ll share a couple below and the rest will be in the gallery at the end of the blog.
While standing here watching the sunrise I saw a person walk past heading where I had just come from. Really liked the look of the fence down one side and the trees lining the other while they walked through the centre with the dawn glow of sunrise in the background.
Got around to the pool and caught this guy doing some handstand practice on the pool wall before a sunrise dip. Also got him diving in from the ocean side wall which is an image I’ve been after for a while but never had the timing right. In saying that this one was still slightly late and also I just want a perfectly still mirrored pool surface for the person to dive into, which if you know how many locals enjoy an early morning swim is very hard to come by
This bush on the beach at the harbour has always stood out to me but I’ve never really used it in photos until this morning, not up close anyway. I’m sure there are better ways to position both it in the frame and myself to get the most out of it but I had fun playing around with a different element that I normally wouldn’t
Going further around the harbour and I found a pelican preening itself on the sand and one swimming around the old jetty. After walking around to the section of the harbour that all the commercial boats are anchored the one near the jetty swam towards me and as it got closer darted its beak into the water and held it there. Eventually surfacing with a fish which it promptly swallowed
I walked to the lighthouse and took way too many photos using the different angles of the fencing and just angles of the lighthouse itself. The clouds that had spread across the sky where really nice from a photography perspective, they really work well for a black and white edit. You will find plenty more below
This scene was just too good to ignore, it was taken directly into the sun so it had to be another black and white image, there was way too much distracting glare in the colour version. Walked back along the road and got my usual images from above the pool which you will find in the gallery below. That was about it for my walk and by the time I got back to the car it was just over two hours and over 7,000 steps. Plenty for a nice slow morning
As always don’t forget to check out the rest of the
images from the morning in the gallery below
