Exploring Bellambi
I’ve enjoyed shooting the moon lately, from the full moon a few weeks ago to this thin crescent moon and everything in between. It was too high in the sky to have any other elements to this photo but I think it looks good regardless
Only one surfer out when I arrived so naturally I took a wide shot (as wide as I could with the long lens on) to show the isolation and space of being the first one in the lineup
The waves were few and far between, I still managed to get distracted and played around with a slow shutter until the sun rose. This was easily the best of a pretty poor run of images from that effort
With the lens I had, I had to walk up the embankment to fit the creek in and in doing so found this nice framing of the pool. If you look closely you will see a ship perfectly framed on the horizon too, It’s a little harder to see with the bright sunrise going on. Which is another cool little detail of this image, totally by accident, the way the sun flares through the tree on the right hand side just adds a nice touch I wasn’t expecting
Turning the other way I got a little bit of a reflection of the lifeguard tower with some really nice light hitting across the scene
Found a duck that was getting chased around by some other ducks and was letting everyone know about it
Walking a bit further I found this spoon bill wading in the shallow water in search of some breakfast, I don’t remember ever seeing one of these before so that was pretty cool
Heading back to the car I liked the minimalist nature of the surfer walking along the shoreline
Last images from Bellambi were of some of the surfers riding the waves as seen through a gap in the benches
Called in to Towradgi Pool on the way home to see what the swell was doing there and found these flowers that had bloomed giving a nice pop of colour across the foreground
Then I made a few wave images before deciding I was hungry and it was time to go home.
I got kind of bored shooting around the pool with the long lens and almost left, before deciding to walk down the bike track a little to see what it could find me. Turned out to be a good move with the creek mouth creating a nice S shape as it meandered across the sand
