Exploring Flagstaff Hill
With the school holidays here I always try to take my niece out for a sunrise somewhere. Today we chose to go for a walk around Flagstaff Hill and the Harbour.
I gave her my old camera and we set off with no plan just see where the morning takes us. We started on the road down near the harbour and walked up around the lighthouse then out to the viewing platform where we watched the world go by for a bit.
Then we went down to the top part of the rocks next to City Beach where the sky really started to show some colour, I took a few shots from here but the one with someone in the frame, as usual, is the one that caught my eye the most.
Heading back up towards the lighthouse and I have always liked the way it sits between the railings of the stairs and today the clouds had some really nice textures running through them as well as a hint of pink from the rising sun.
We even got some really nice light across the mountains, it always pays to check all around you when the sun starts shining through. I especially like the way the light hits across Brokers Nose at this time of year.
The golden light helps to reveal the details that are usually missed on the light house too. The way it lights the arch and the gradient of golden light to the blue shadow along the wall of the lighthouse really caught my attention.
Played around with some more slow shutter panning images, trying to find interesting textures and colours amongst the water and clouds.
Finally we walked around the harbour before heading to the pool for a swim which is looking like it could be one of my last swims for the year.
As always don’t forget to check out the rest of the
images from the morning in the gallery below
