Glowing Austinmer
I seem to have come up with a system for my days off, one week I head south the next I head north. If I get an extra day to shoot I’ll stay local, Towradgi, North Gong, Bellambi those sort of areas. Last week I was south in Minnamurra so this week I went north to Austinmer. The glow across the horizon was one of the best I’ve seen, one of my favourite things about a cloudless sunrise is the predawn glow
Had to shoot some ICM with those colours across the sky. Normally I would zoom right in but sometimes I like to keep it wider and include some of the sand at the bottom for a different texture
Next I played around with catching some details in the whitewash as it both exploded and trickled across the sand on the shoreline. Waves also stole my attention while I waited for the sun to rise and spread the golden quilt of light across the beach
That light hitting the surfclub was amazing, I was really captivated by the shadows of people walking past, projected onto the pillar of the surfclub. I was trying to get a shot of a single persons shadow on that pillar with no visible person in the frame. The timing never quite worked out for the image I had envisioned in the 5ish minutes I stood watching, this was the best I got
The gradient of colour rising from the horizon as I looked across to the pool was dreamy to say the least. A lull in the surf with just the one wave breaking across the shoreline gives a calming vibe as the sun lights up the pool walls and handrails.
Found some more nice sand details around the pool. Whether its from high in the sky with the drone or just from my ground level, sand patterns always catch my eye.
Water rushing out of the pool from the occasional wave freshening up the water. Would have looked cool as a slow shutter flow image but I didn’t have my tripod with me on this occasion
Finished the morning with a walk up the stairs to the path along the top of the cliff. Never been up there before, with the angle of the sun at this time of year I got a nice contrast of warm light across the cool water in the pool. Took the drone with me but was too hungry to hang around and fly it, will have to have a fly out there another time.
As always don’t forget to check out the rest of the
images from the morning in the gallery below
