Incredible Windang Island
I could see the colour starting to appear on my way to Warilla. The early glow is always a darker shade of red/purple and the camera catches it so much better than the eye can see it. A five minute walk from the car always feels much longer when you know the colour has already started to light up the clouds. As soon as I got onto the beach I took this image just in case the colour disappeared before I got to the Island
Getting to the island and heading straight for the wheels hung up on some rocks on the far side. I was hoping the tide was high enough to get some waves washing around the wheels. Turns out it was just high enough for the occasional wave.
Moving along to some of the rocks as the colour burst across the sky. Decided to try another longer exposure for this one to allow the focus to fall on the rocks and sky without the distraction of the movement across the water. Shorter exposure shots are in the gallery below
With the sun just peaking over the horizon I thought it was worth attempting a sunstar image. Not overly sure it works, I need to practice more and figure out how to get the star without all the sunflares
Once the sun had risen and the colour had gone I ventured over to the wheels on the other side of the island. The tide was the perfect height for some extra long long exposures, this one is a two minute image completely smoothing out the water and catching the cloud movement across the sky. There wasn’t a lot happening light or colour wise so I thought black and white was the best way to take this edit.
A small swell meant this image was a lesson in patience, felt like I was standing there for a year, in reality it was probably only five minutes. Eventually this wave provided exactly what I was looking for
Finished the morning back at the first set of wheels. By now the tide had risen far enough that I didn’t have to wait long for some water flow across the beach. Got this wave fanning out perfectly along the shore to finish my morning
