North Beach Play

29-01-2026

I had a plan when I went to North Beach this day, that plan was some long exposure photography with the high tide and swell rolling over the back wall of the Gentleman’s Pool (aka. North Beach rock pool). It wasn’t until I arrived I realised the swell wasn’t quite enough for the water movement I was hoping for

After waiting and taking some test shots for 10 or 15 minutes I decided to head down to the rocks to try for another shot I’ve wanted from here. One with the lighthouses aligned and a lot of water movement through the scene, I wasn’t real happy with the skies I got that morning, although this black and white image works rather well, it’s still a shot that will need to be revisited at a later date

After exhausting my options for this composition I turned around and started to shoot back towards the pavillion and surf club, using the waves washing across the rocks as some interesting foreground. I managed a few decent images from this angle, one shown here

Once the sun was a bit higher and I couldn’t do long exposures any more I packed up the tripod and fell back to my usual street photography style I do so often after a shoot. Just as I started an ocean mist came rolling in, courtesy of a very humid morning.

Don’t forget to share my work when you see it on social media, if it is something you enjoy looking at, chances are your friends might too.
